Tektronix EA Elektro-Automatik Unveils Upgraded Battery Test System

Tektronix EA Elektro-Automatik has introduced an advanced version of its EA BTS 10300 battery test system, designed to enhance testing efficiency for electric vehicle (EV) battery systems while optimizing production floor space. The latest iteration of the EA BTS 10300 offers high power density capabilities, making it a pivotal tool for accelerating battery testing processes amid rising demand in the EV market.

Compact and Powerful Testing Solution

The EA BTS 10300 is engineered to deliver up to 300 kW of test current within a compact 42U-high rack enclosure, occupying just 6.5 square feet of floor space. With a voltage rating of 2000 VDC, the system supports sourcing and sinking up to 2,400 A per rack, utilizing cutting-edge bidirectional power supply technologies and efficient silicon carbide (SiC)-based switches.

This compact design allows EV battery manufacturers to maximize their testing facilities’ space and throughput, addressing the growing need for efficient and scalable battery testing solutions.

Cost-Effective and Versatile Testing

The EA BTS 10300 is particularly advantageous for battery pulse testing, which requires high current levels traditionally met with custom-built systems. Now, manufacturers can leverage this commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solution to handle a range of battery test protocols, including cycling, drive cycle simulation, and insulation resistance testing.

For increased power capabilities, multiple racks can be configured in parallel, achieving a total power output of up to 3.84 MW.

Advanced Autoranging and Energy Efficiency

The system features bidirectional supplies with autoranging capabilities, allowing it to source or sink its full rated power across a broad voltage range down to 33%. This flexibility enables testing of various battery types on a single platform without the need for multiple supplies.

Additionally, the EA BTS 10300 incorporates regenerative energy recovery, returning up to 96.5% of the power to the grid. This feature significantly reduces electricity costs and minimizes the burden on HVAC systems needed to manage heat generated during testing.
