Mills CNC’s Strategic Move to Supply Siemens-Controlled Machines Boosts Market Position

by Anna

Mills CNC’s strategic decision to stock and provide UK and Irish customers with Doosan (now DN Solutions’) lathes and machining centers featuring Siemens controls has yielded significant dividends, propelling the company’s market share and sales revenues.

Since the implementation of this decision in 2015 and 2017 for lathes and machining centers respectively, machine tool sales have shown a consistent upward trend. Mills CNC’s dominance in the Siemens-controlled market, particularly through its DNM vertical machining centers, has made a substantial contribution to the company’s overall success.

The ability to offer customers machine tools equipped with their preferred control choice has not only unlocked new business opportunities, especially in the 3- and 5-axis vertical machining center market, but has also solidified Mills CNC’s reputation as a customer-centric organization.

The escalating demand for DN Solutions’ machines with Siemens controls has prompted Mills CNC to adapt its machine tool stocking policy over time. Models such as the DVF 5-axis machines and DNM 4500/5700/6700 machining centers with Siemens controls are now readily available in stock at Mills’ Technology Campus facility in Leamington, ready to meet market demands.

In response to the growing Siemens business, Mills CNC has enhanced its CNC Training Academy to cater specifically to Siemens customers, offering a range of operator and programmer courses that have garnered significant popularity.

Dale emphasized the advantages of Siemens controls, particularly the on-board conversational ShopMill or ShopTurn software interfaces, which streamline job setups and part program creation, leading to enhanced operational efficiency and productivity for customers.

Looking to the future, Mills CNC is gearing up to offer courses on the new Siemens Sinumerik One control, a versatile platform that integrates CNC, HMI, PLC, closed-loop control, and communication tasks in a single package, enabling user-friendly dialogue programming with ShopMill and ShopTurn.

The decision by Mills CNC to provide machines with Siemens controls was a strategic move backed by strong relationships with Doosan and DN Solutions, allowing the company to influence product development and cater effectively to market demands.

Apart from Siemens-controlled DN Solutions’ machines, Mills CNC also offers a range of Zayer CNC milling machines with Siemens, Fanuc, Heidenhain, and Mitsubishi controls, demonstrating the company’s commitment to delivering tailored solutions to meet diverse customer needs and preferences.
