JLR Joins Confederation of British Metalforming: A Strategic Enhancement for the Industry

by Anna

The Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM) has officially welcomed Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) as its newest member, marking a significant development for the association. This addition is expected to bolster CBM’s representation, which currently encompasses over 200 companies involved in the production of fasteners, forgings, pressings, cold-rolled, and sheet-metal products.

Steve Morley, President of CBM, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “JLR’s inclusion is a substantial boost for our association. Their status as a leading OEM, both in the UK and on the global stage, is set to benefit the entire supply chain. I have had a long-standing professional relationship with JLR and am excited to collaborate closely once more. Our goal is to enhance this relationship, delivering substantial value not only to JLR but also to the CBM members who supply to them and our broader membership.”

The CBM stands as the UK’s sole specialist organization for metalforming experts, representing a sector that employs 70,000 people and boasts a combined turnover of £26 billion. The organization wields considerable influence within government and the manufacturing sector, achieving notable successes in lobbying for increased steel safeguarding quotas and securing significant financial benefits for its members through improved energy management and Climate Change Levy rebates.

In addressing industry challenges, CBM has actively engaged with the Department for Business and developed an approved Degree Level Apprenticeship standard. Efforts are also underway to introduce two additional standards at Level 3 to tackle skills and labor shortages in the sector.

Stephen Manley of JLR’s Global Manufacturing Engineering Stamping department welcomed the new collaboration: “Joining the CBM presents an excellent opportunity for us to address critical global issues such as sustainability, training, skills, and geopolitical challenges. This partnership will enhance our capacity to collaborate effectively and advance as a unified manufacturing entity. Membership also allows us to connect with tiered manufacturing companies closely linked to JLR, facilitating better collaboration, best practice sharing, and mutual support.”
