Liebherr’s mining and components divisions are collaborating with Bruno Generators Group (BGG) to explore the use of green ammonia as a fuel source for low emission power generation. BGG, an Italian company specializing in advanced power generators and mobile energy solutions, brings valuable expertise to this innovative project.
Liebherr has previously researched ammonia for dual-fuel internal combustion engines, yielding promising results that support further development. Green ammonia, as a hydrogen carrier, offers lower transport and storage costs compared to traditional green hydrogen and has the potential to serve as an energy vector globally. By utilizing green ammonia, generators and off-board power units could provide low to zero emission alternatives for on-site energy needs, addressing energy fluctuations and reducing emissions from equipment like electric excavators.
