U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Installs Emergency Generators in Western North Carolina

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Temporary Emergency Power team successfully completed the installation of generators in western North Carolina last Friday to support communities facing critical power shortages.

Four generators were deployed in the disaster-affected area, including two installed at the wastewater treatment facility in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

The Temporary Power Team comprises soldiers from the 249th Engineer Battalion, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) personnel, and private contractors. They are currently conducting ongoing power assessments throughout the region to evaluate existing connection points for serviceability, thereby expediting further generator installations.

USACE personnel are also assessing water and wastewater treatment facilities, coordinating efforts with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the State of North Carolina.

USACE’s National Activation, Regional Activations, Temporary Emergency Power, Infrastructure Assessment, and Debris Management teams are working in tandem to support FEMA’s mission in western North Carolina. The safety, health, and well-being of all individuals impacted by Tropical Storm Helene remain USACE’s top priority.
