The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) has announced the return of its prestigious Steam Turbine and Generator User Group (STUG) in 2025, following the success of its 2024 event, which saw over 200 engineers in attendance. As the first event in IMechE’s annual calendar of specialized power industry gatherings, STUG continues to serve as a key forum for professionals in the field.
Held annually for over 16 years, STUG has become a cornerstone event for engineers, offering a platform to tackle shared challenges, explore emerging technical innovations, and exchange best practices. The event provides valuable insights into the latest developments within the power industry, with presentations carefully curated by a committee of senior engineers from across the sector.
The 2025 programme will feature a comprehensive range of technical presentations from leading operators, manufacturers, service providers, and asset experts. This year’s event will be launched with a keynote address by Natascha Engel, CEO of the cross-party think tank Palace Yard. Engel will set the stage for the two-day conference by addressing the current state of the power industry and outlining the key challenges and opportunities ahead.
In addition to Engel, the agenda will include speakers from prominent organizations such as Ansaldo Energia, Siemens, GE Vernova Gas Power, Sulzer, Sebenzana, Arabelle Solutions, Uniper, FM Global, Suez, EDF, and many others. The full agenda is available online for those interested in the diverse range of topics to be discussed.
STUG provides ample networking opportunities, allowing attendees to engage in discussions and expand their professional networks throughout the event. The exhibition area will feature a variety of companies showcasing the latest technologies, and the user group dinner on the first evening will offer a relaxed setting for continued conversations.
The event has garnered widespread acclaim from past attendees. Christian Keefe, a mechanical engineer from Intergen, praised the 2024 User Group as a “preeminent power industry event” that facilitated valuable exchanges on industry best practices and new technologies. First-time attendee Chris Early from VPI Power described the experience as an “ideal opportunity to learn from other companies’ experiences, products, and services.” Richard London from EDF echoed these sentiments, calling STUG the “must-go-to” event for steam turbine and generator users.
With its reputation for high-quality content and networking opportunities, STUG 2025 is set to continue its legacy as one of the leading events in the power engineering community.
