Emergency responders with Casper Fire-EMS are set to receive vital new equipment after the Casper City Council approved funding for multiple upgrades during Tuesday’s meeting. The council unanimously approved the purchase of 80 new fire helmets, 80 fire shelters, and a state-of-the-art breathing air compressor system.
The approved funding for the fire helmets and shelters amounts to $46,326.28. These expenses will be covered by the Casper Fire-EMS fiscal year 2025 budget. According to a report from the fire department, the current wildland helmets are nearing the end of their 10-year lifespan, with most already expired or soon to expire. The aging helmets have shown signs of wear and degradation due to prolonged use.
Additionally, the council approved the purchase of a new breathing air compressor system, costing $65,908. The system includes the compressor, air storage units, a carbon monoxide monitor, and various additional components. This crucial equipment will be funded through the city’s capital reserve funds.
These upgrades are part of an ongoing effort to ensure that Casper’s first responders have the necessary tools and technology to carry out their duties safely and effectively.
