Kia Unveils All-Electric PV5 WKNDR Camper Van Concept at SEMA

by Anna

Kia has introduced its bold vision for the future of van life with the debut of the all-electric PV5 WKNDR camper van concept at the 2024 SEMA Show. Designed to push the boundaries of electric overlanding, the concept vehicle showcases a combination of cutting-edge technology and rugged design aimed at the next generation of adventure-driven vanlifers.

Part of Kia’s PBV (Purpose Beyond Vehicles) lineup, the PV5 concept is described as a “Swiss Army Knife on wheels.” Its exterior design blends traditional camper van features with a futuristic aesthetic, offering a striking and functional design that could redefine off-road living. Key features include a roof-mounted LED light bar, rock sliders, tow hooks, and yellow auxiliary lights, all designed to enhance the van’s rugged capabilities. Oversized fender flares provide ample space for off-road tires, while the reinforced suspension ensures it’s ready for any terrain. An onboard air compressor also allows users to inflate air mattresses and tires while on the move, enhancing the vehicle’s all-terrain utility.

Inside, the PV5 WKNDR boasts an ultra-flexible layout. The concept’s interior features furniture that can be flipped, slid, or rotated to maximize living and working space. Among the most innovative elements is the “Gear Head” — a pioneering storage solution that provides off-board storage when the vehicle is stationary. This design allows for easy access to equipment without cluttering the interior, making room for sleeping, gear storage, or even a portable camp kitchen with a panoramic view.

On the technology front, Kia has integrated roof-mounted solar panels and hydro turbine wheels, designed to recharge the vehicle’s batteries while driving, offering a sustainable energy solution for off-grid adventurers.
