New Forest for Ukraine (NFFU), a volunteer-run charity, is sending 400 generators to Ukraine as part of its ongoing mission to support the country’s war-torn communities.
Since its inception in February 2022, NFFU has been dedicated to providing vital humanitarian aid to Ukraine, with a particular focus on supplying power to areas affected by frequent attacks on the nation’s energy infrastructure. The group, composed entirely of unpaid volunteers, has spent over a year collecting and refurbishing generators to help Ukrainian residents cope with severe winter conditions that can drop to as low as -20°C.
In addition to the generators, NFFU has also received donations of 70 stoves to help provide essential heat and power to Ukrainian families. Many of the generators and stoves will be distributed to communities across Ukraine in partnership with a network of verified local teams who ensure that aid reaches those most in need. According to NFFU, some recipients have expressed their gratitude through personal messages and photographs, sharing how much the donations have helped them during the harsh winter months.
Sandra Quinn, press coordinator and volunteer at NFFU, explained: “Our contacts in Ukraine have been telling us for some time that generators are critically needed, especially as we approach the winter season. We’ve worked tirelessly through our volunteer networks to spread the word, and thanks to generous donors, we’ve been able to collect both new and used generators that are fully serviced and ready for use.”
NFFU’s efforts to assist Ukraine are driven entirely by public donations, raised through fundraising events and appeals. The charity operates a wide network of collection points throughout the New Forest area, including local garden centers, shops, and volunteers’ homes. From there, volunteers transport the aid to a central hub in Lymington before it is sent to Ukraine.
Through this network, NFFU has successfully sent tonnes of aid to Ukraine, including food, medical supplies, and now critical power sources. The charity’s volunteer team continues to work tirelessly, ensuring that communities in Ukraine receive much-needed support, especially during the ongoing energy crisis.
