Van Den Herik Partners with zepp.solutions for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Genset

by Anna

Van den Herik-Sliedrecht, a leading Dutch hydraulic engineering company, has placed an order with zepp.solutions to develop a hydrogen fuel cell generator set. This genset, built around zepp.solutions’ X150 fuel cell system, will power the fully electric crane vessel, the Prins 6, used in dredging and embankment projects. Initially, the generator set will be deployed on the quays along the IJssel to supply power to the crane ship and other electric equipment, such as excavators.

By utilizing hydrogen technology, Van den Herik is pioneering sustainable practices in industries traditionally challenging to decarbonize. The hydrogen-powered genset is projected to reduce CO2 emissions by 165 tonnes and nitrogen emissions by 2 tonnes annually, with minimal noise pollution. This aligns with both Van den Herik’s sustainability goals and those of the Dutch Department of Waterways and Public Works (Rijkswaterstaat).

The project, recognized as a “Leader project” by the Transition Path Coastline Care and Fairway Maintenance (TPKV), was finalized in close cooperation with Rijkswaterstaat. The agreement was officially signed at the InfraTech exhibition in Rotterdam, with representatives from both companies and Rijkswaterstaat present.
