DENSO Advances Electric Bus Air-Conditioning Technology in Australia

by Anna

In 2024, DENSO has strengthened its position as a key supplier of air-conditioning systems for buses and coaches in Australia. The company, which has been selling HVAC systems since 1949 and is the second-largest tier-one supplier to the automotive industry globally, has spent 51 years developing its products locally.

DENSO’s significant growth in the Australian bus sector in 2024 was driven by new partnerships, especially after the release of its new Generation 2 electric LD9E air-conditioning model at the National Bus and Coach Show in Brisbane. This model, which offers the lowest battery consumption of any electric air-conditioner on the market, is expected to be a game-changer for electric bus technology.

Robert Smart, DENSO’s business development manager, shared with ABC, “We’ve signed on a couple of major operators, which has laid the groundwork for plenty of growth into the future.” The LD9E’s ability to save battery power is particularly beneficial for electric bus operators looking to optimize energy use.

The electric air-conditioning units, including a Volvo-specific model, have been well-received by operators, who appreciate the savings in energy consumption.
