AFC Energy has launched its enhanced 2nd Generation H-Power S+ 200kW hydrogen generator, marking a significant advancement in hydrogen-powered solutions for construction, mining, and off-grid power applications. This new model builds on the success of the first-generation prototype developed with ABB’s support, offering substantial improvements in size, weight, and cost efficiency.
The H-Power S+ 200kW is now 34% smaller, 28% lighter, and 65% more affordable than its predecessor, making it more accessible for a variety of use cases. These design enhancements reflect AFC Energy’s ongoing commitment to making hydrogen power solutions more practical and cost-effective, driving their widespread adoption across industries.
As part of AFC Energy’s strategy to accelerate the adoption of clean energy, the new generator has already received support through the Red Diesel Replacement Grant. The first deployment will take place at a Brett Aggregates site, where the generator will provide reliable power to the facility’s operations, demonstrating its capability in a real-world setting.
This project is also aligned with the UK’s broader clean energy efforts, as it is part of the Red Diesel Replacement (RDR) programme, which is managed by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. The RDR programme provides funding to support clean energy solutions in sectors like construction and mining, helping the UK reach its ambitious net-zero goals by the 2030s. Through the £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP), AFC Energy and other innovators are working to commercialize advanced clean technologies and processes that will play a vital role in the country’s transition to a greener economy.
