FureBear, a joint venture between Algoma Central Corporation and Furetank Rederi, has received two new product tankers, the Fure Vesborg and Fure Viken, from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard. These vessels are the first in a series of ten and feature dual-fuel engines capable of running on LNG or liquefied biogas (LBG), as well as battery hybrid solutions.
With Finnish/Swedish ice class 1A notation, the tankers are designed for year-round operation in harsh conditions. They have a length of 149.9 meters, a beam of 22.8 meters, and a total cargo capacity of 20,306 cubic meters. Shore power will allow them to operate without relying on onboard generators while berthed.
The tankers’ propulsion system includes a dual-fuel engine, a shaft generator, and a controllable-pitch propeller, resulting in a 20% reduction in fuel consumption. Additionally, they feature eco-friendly systems such as a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for NOx reduction, UV-based ballast water treatment, and biodegradable oils to minimize environmental impact.
The vessels are also designed for crew comfort, with spacious cabins, a gym, and sauna. The remaining tankers are set for delivery by early 2027, with the fleet serving the Northern European market and operating in sulfur emission control areas in the North Sea and Scandinavia.
The Fure Vesborg and Fure Viken set a new standard for eco-friendly shipping with their efficient propulsion systems and commitment to sustainability, supporting the growing demand for biofuels and renewable feedstocks in Northern Europe.
