Steel Locker Manufacturer, Locit, Achieves Carbon Neutrality with UK-First Certification

by Anna

Locit, an innovative steel locker manufacturer based in Deeside, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming carbon neutral and obtaining PAS 2060 certification—a UK first for its sector and potentially a world first. The certification, published by the British Standards Institution (BSI), is internationally recognized and ensures that carbon neutrality claims are credible and verified, increasing accountability and consumer confidence.

Locit’s achievement comes after a successful year of trading, during which it secured almost £5 million in sales and created 40 new jobs. The company received a £4 million investment from Arete Capital Partners, a private capital investor, in 2022, with the goal of disrupting the UK steel locker market valued at approximately £70 million.

Richard Williams stated, “The PAS 2060 certification is the realization of a lot of hard work and a commitment to the highest standards when measuring and reducing our emissions. Sustainability is no longer an add-on; it is an imperative, not just for the planet but the future of our business.”

Locit’s sustainable approach includes using recycled steel from UK-based suppliers, reducing waste through advanced design software, lowering energy consumption with innovative manufacturing techniques, and optimizing stock and delivery management with data-led manufacturing. The company also uses recycled packaging for its products.

Locit’s 64,000-square-foot digital manufacturing facility is located in the Deeside Enterprise Zone, which is home to advanced manufacturing companies in various sectors.

Richard Williams acknowledged the contribution of the committed workforce to the company’s achievements, saying, “Our team shares the vision that the steel locker sector has become antiquated and incompatible with UK manufacturing’s net-zero and digitalization goals. We want to create a modern manufacturing facility that is efficient and forward-thinking, creates high-value local jobs, welcomes a diverse workforce, and makes a superior product. We’ve only just begun, but we’re off to a great start.”

Locit is a proud member of the Made in Britain initiative, which promotes and supports British manufacturing, helping consumers identify British-made products both domestically and internationally.
