CMZ, a leading Basque lathe manufacturer, has recently finalized the acquisition of a 22,000 square meter plot in the Aboro district for the construction of a state-of-the-art assembly plant. This strategic move marks a significant step towards the realization of the company’s plans to introduce a new lathe model to the market, with its technical team already fully engaged in the design process.
The investment in this new facility is part of CMZ’s ongoing efforts to bolster its manufacturing capabilities, aiming to increase production to 1,000 machines annually. In the medium term, the company aims to solidify its production capacity at 800 lathes per year.
Situated on the former site of the Mendiguren and Zarraua stamping and pressing plant, the new assembly plant in Berriz is poised to become CMZ’s primary hub, equipped with cutting-edge technological advancements. This investment underscores CMZ’s commitment to meeting manufacturing requirements for its upcoming lathe model and aligning with the objectives outlined in the company’s strategic plan.
With the addition of the Berriz plant, CMZ will boast a total of eight manufacturing facilities dedicated to lathe production. The strategic design ensures that over 80% of the machine components are sourced from its own manufacturing ecosystem, allowing for meticulous control over the production process, minimizing import/export costs, and ensuring the utilization of top-quality components without inflating the final cost of the machine.
Furthermore, CMZ’s expansion efforts extend beyond domestic borders, with a focus on international markets such as Turkey and the United States. The company aims to consolidate its presence in these regions through increased production and support from its commercial network.
Additionally, as CMZ France approaches its 20th anniversary, the company is intensifying efforts to enhance production capabilities within its subsidiary. The establishment of the new assembly plant in Berriz represents a significant leap forward in production capacity and resources, underscoring CMZ’s commitment to sustained growth and international expansion.
