BEP Surface Technologies, a prominent electroplating and surface finishing specialist, has acquired the renowned consultancy Plating Solutions in a strategic move to enhance its growth and innovation capabilities.
Plating Solutions, based in Huddersfield, was established 20 years ago by industry expert John Torr. The consultancy specializes in metal finishing plant design and equipment, serving a diverse array of UK and international clients, and acts as a chemical stockist for plating solutions.
The acquisition, for an undisclosed amount, significantly expands BEP’s footprint, solidifying its position as a leader in the UK’s metal plating and specialty chemicals sectors. This move bolsters BEP’s ability to cater to various industries with advanced solutions.
BEP, established over 50 years ago, serves sectors including plastics, defense, energy, power generation, and nuclear. It is known for addressing contemporary challenges in cutting-edge industries, such as electric vehicle battery production.
John Torr, who has more than 55 years of experience in electroplating, will take on a consultancy role post-acquisition. He will lead a team of commercial staff and chemical engineers, ensuring a smooth transition and continued innovation.
“We are thrilled to welcome John Torr and Plating Solutions clients into the BEP family,” said Andrew McClusky, managing director of BEP Surface Technologies. “John’s unparalleled expertise and dedication to advancing surface technologies perfectly align with our mission to drive innovation and excellence in engineering.”
This acquisition is another milestone for BEP, which recently launched BEP Solutions to foster international R&D partnerships aimed at solving global surface coating challenges.
“John’s stellar reputation in innovation and problem-solving has been instrumental in providing cutting-edge solutions to clients across the UK and internationally,” McClusky added. “Our recently launched innovation arm, BEP Solutions, will benefit from his deep understanding of process chemistry and commitment to excellence.”
Torr expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating, “Joining forces with BEP Solutions presents an exciting opportunity for me to share my expertise. I am confident that we will continue to deliver exceptional solutions while driving innovation in metal plating. I look forward to contributing to BEP’s visionary projects and leading a team of passionate professionals toward new heights of success.”
BEP has a robust history of collaboration with international governments, academia, and businesses. Their notable projects include developing a graphene-impregnated copper coating with the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) in Manchester, optimizing chill roll processes for a global food packaging manufacturer, conducting surface coatings research for a major defense supplier, and researching copper-coated containers for global nuclear waste management organizations.
