Grob-Werke Expands Presence in India with New Production Plant

Grob-Werke, a prominent machine manufacturer based in Bavaria, Germany, has officially inaugurated its sixth production plant in Bengaluru, India. This milestone underscores the company’s robust expansion strategy and firm commitment to the Indian market.

The project, which began with the laying of the foundation stone on May 4, 2022, culminated in the opening of the state-of-the-art facility approximately two years later. Speaking on this occasion, Florian Grob expressed pride in the company’s achievement: “We are proud to open our sixth production plant in India, marking a significant step in our family-owned company’s growth. This move reflects our dedication to harnessing India’s dynamic growth potential and advancing technological progress in the region.”

Grob-Werke initially established its presence in India in 2007, beginning with a branch that later evolved into a full-fledged production plant due to the expanding opportunities in the Indian market. CEO German Wankmiller highlighted the strategic importance of this development: “Establishing a production plant involves substantial investment and requires bringing in expertise in technology, quality, and reliability. It represents a strategic decision based on our long-term vision for growth.”

The new facility, built at a cost of approximately eight million euros, occupies an expansive 860,000 square-foot property, with the production hall covering about 53,000 square feet. Currently, the plant employs 130 staff members, reflecting Grob-Werke’s commitment to local employment and development.

Moreover, Grob-Werke has been addressing global skills shortages by leveraging qualified Indian specialists and engineers at its headquarters in Mindelheim, Germany, and Bluffton, USA. “Indian specialists contribute significantly to our workforce, demonstrating high qualifications and proficiency in English,” noted Wankmiller, emphasizing the strategic advantage of this talent pool.

Looking ahead, Grob-Werke plans to further strengthen its presence in India by leasing an office complex in Bengaluru in fall 2024, focusing on employing engineers and software specialists. These professionals will not only support Grob India but also provide critical engineering and software services globally.

Christian Müller, CSO of Grob-Werke, highlighted the promising future in India, particularly in the automotive sector: “India presents significant growth opportunities, especially in e-mobility projects and aerospace applications. We are already engaged with major automotive manufacturers like TATA and Mahindra, positioning us well for substantial growth in the region.”
