In a landmark collaboration, Dürr, GROB, and Manz have formed Europe’s pioneering partnership in lithium-ion battery production technology, aiming to establish themselves as the continent’s premier supplier of complete battery production systems.
This year marks a significant milestone as the trio showcases their jointly developed concept factory at the Battery Show Europe in Stuttgart. Emphasizing end-to-end process automation, seamlessly integrated interfaces, and comprehensive digitalization solutions, the factory sets a new standard in efficient battery production.
Since its inception, the partnership has focused on developing a concept factory covering the entire process chain, from electrode production to cell and module assembly, and finally, pack assembly. The planning phase, organized into six defined workstreams, prioritized achieving exceptional process efficiency.
Key to their success are the technical and digital interfaces between the partners. Dürr’s subsidiary, iTAC, renowned for process digitalization, contributes its MES/MOM solution, ensuring complete visibility and control over all production steps. This holistic approach enhances overall system efficiency, reduces energy consumption, and optimizes plant footprint, thereby lowering operating costs.
The collaboration offers a comprehensive battery production solution from a single source, exemplified by their first joint customer project underway, which integrates electrode production and battery cell assembly. This integrated approach simplifies project management for customers, streamlining processing interfaces and ensuring smooth implementation aligned with rigorous project management standards.
At the Battery Show Europe 2024, Dr. Hannes Schmüser (Board Member, Dürr Systems AG), German Wankmiller (CEO, GROB Group), and Martin Drasch (CEO, Manz AG) will lead discussions on scaling European battery production swiftly and reliably.
