ASG Group Advances Decarbonisation in Aerospace Manufacturing

Stockport-based aerospace conglomerate ASG Group has reported significant progress in its efforts to decarbonise aerospace manufacturing. The company is implementing several initiatives across its subsidiaries to reduce its carbon footprint and promote environmental innovation.

At ASG Produmax in Baildon, a partnership with Bradford Council highlights the company’s local decarbonisation efforts. This collaboration is part of the Bradford Manufacturing Futures project, which aims to establish sustainable manufacturing practices. Jeremy Ridyard, managing director, stated, “Our involvement in the Bradford Manufacturing Futures initiative aligns seamlessly with ASG Group’s commitment to sustainability. By pooling resources and expertise, we can drive positive change within Bradford and the wider region.”

In Bromborough, ASG AMF Engineering has made a significant investment in solar energy, installing nearly 700 solar panels this week. The 220kW system is expected to generate around 160,000 kWh annually, with financial benefits projected at £40,000 to £50,000 per year, achieving a return on investment within 2 to 3 years. Simon Kirkman, managing director, expressed, “This investment is crucial to enhancing our environmental performance and delivering cost savings. By harnessing renewable energy, we reduce our carbon impact and remain competitive for our customers.”

ASG King & Fowler, a historic manufacturing business established in 1887, announced a £1.35 million investment in a state-of-the-art Tartaric Sulphuric Anodising (TSA) line. This investment anticipates regulatory reforms under the REACH initiative, which aims to ban the use of hexavalent chrome in aerospace applications. Managing director Gareth Richards emphasized, “Our investment in the new TSA line underscores our commitment to environmental responsibility and industry excellence. We are proud to embrace this change and lead in aerospace manufacturing.”
