Teesside University Launches Scholarships to Boost Women in Engineering

Teesside University has announced a new scholarship program aimed at first-year students pursuing engineering-related degrees, in a bid to attract more women to the field.

In collaboration with Enginuity and RWE Sofia Offshore Wind Farm, the university seeks to diversify the talent pipeline for current and future industries in the Tees Valley. Ann Watson, CEO of Enginuity and a Teesside University alumna, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Working with Teesside University to offer these scholarships to women in engineering is a privilege and crucial. The skills gained through an engineering degree will benefit you for life. My advice to women considering this career path is to just do it.”

Matthew Swanwick, project director at RWE Sofia Offshore Wind Farm, expressed support for the scholarship in honor of International Women in Engineering Day. He noted, “RWE benefits greatly from the talented women on our team. It’s essential to increase the number of women in engineering, and we fully support this initiative.”
