Bauchi Allocates N300 Million for Advanced Mechanized Agriculture

The Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Muhammad, has announced a substantial investment of over N300 million in advanced mechanized agricultural projects, which is already delivering promising results.

Speaking at the launch of the 2024 Rainfed Agricultural season and the sale of fertilizers and other farm implements, Governor Muhammad revealed a comprehensive agricultural development initiative designed to enhance the state’s agricultural productivity and economy.

During the ceremony held at Waziri Mazadu Central Primary School in Dass on Saturday, the governor outlined the new agricultural initiative. This plan includes the unbundling of virgin land for economic development, the provision of over N50 million worth of chemicals and heavy-duty agricultural machinery, and the distribution of 20 motorcycles to implement suppliers.

Governor Muhammad praised the Acresal project, a key agricultural program in Bauchi State, and announced the implementation of a robust mechanized agriculture system. He highlighted Bauchi State’s pioneering status as the first in the country to secure a World Bank loan, which will be used to establish livestock development centers throughout the state. This initiative aims to transform the livestock industry and improve farmers’ livelihoods.

Additionally, the governor stated that the state government would set up agricultural processing centers to minimize post-harvest losses and enhance the value of agricultural products. A bag of NPK fertilizer, launched at the event, will be sold at a subsidized price of N20,000 to make it more affordable for farmers.

Governor Muhammad also cautioned against the misuse of tractors provided under the program. To prevent unauthorized use outside the state, each tractor will be equipped with a tracker. He emphasized the importance of properly utilizing the resources to ensure the program’s success.

The event, attended by farmers, agricultural experts, top government officials, and politicians, underscored the governor’s commitment to boosting the state’s economy and ensuring food security through agricultural development.
