Createc Celebrates New Headquarters with Advanced Robotics and Scenic Views

Createc, a Cumbrian technology firm renowned for its expertise in robotics, radiation measurement, sensing, and artificial intelligence, has officially opened its new headquarters. The unveiling event, held on Thursday, August 1st, welcomed over 100 guests to the firm’s new offices on Wakefield Road, Cockermouth. The new facility boasts sweeping views of Skiddaw and features a state-of-the-art warehouse equipped with mobile robots and large robotic arms.

Createc, which operates in the nuclear, transport, defense, and security sectors, now employs 56 team members worldwide, with 40 based at the new Cockermouth location. The company’s work spans three continents, focusing on deploying cutting-edge technologies to enhance global safety and efficiency.

Chief Executive Will Newsom expressed pride in the team’s efforts, stating, “The move to this beautiful new facility is a significant achievement for Createc. This building embodies our vision and will serve as a platform for showcasing our future innovations and technologies.”

The relocation marks a key milestone in Createc’s five-year growth plan, aiming to expand its local workforce and drive community development and economic growth. The company has secured highly competitive government-backed R&D funding and has achieved substantial economic impact, generating £9 for the UK economy for every £1 in grant funding received. In 2023, Createc reported a turnover of £7.3 million and a 23% annual growth rate.

Founder Matt Mellor reflected on the company’s evolution since its establishment in 2010. “Starting with just three employees in a single-room office 100 meters from our new site, this new facility represents the hard work and success of our early team and the many colleagues who have joined us since. Our strong team of 56 continues to uphold the core values and entrepreneurial spirit that have driven our growth.”

Createc’s notable achievements include the development of N-Visage® technology in 2010, used in the Fukushima Daiichi clean-up. The new headquarters features an advanced physicists’ laboratory with cutting-edge radiometric devices for measuring radiation levels.

The firm has received multiple accolades, including two Queen’s Awards for International Trade and Innovation from the late Queen Elizabeth, and an additional Innovation Award from HRH King Charles in 2024.

With its 1,000-square-meter headquarters, Createc is poised to further its innovation and expansion efforts.
