Global engineering technologies company Renishaw has supplied Domin, a prominent manufacturer of high-performance hydraulic valves, with its cutting-edge RenAM 500Q Ultra metal additive manufacturing (AM) system. This addition will significantly enhance Domin’s production capabilities at its new Technology Centre near Bristol, UK.
Domin’s decision to integrate the RenAM 500Q Ultra into its operations comes as part of a strategy to meet the rising demand for its servo proportional hydraulic valves. The RenAM 500Q Ultra, part of Renishaw’s advanced RenAM 500 series, leverages patented TEMPUS technology to slash build times by up to 50% while maintaining exceptional part quality.
The TEMPUS technology’s innovative approach allows lasers to operate simultaneously with the powder recoater, dramatically increasing productivity. Additionally, the system’s advanced process monitoring software ensures consistent, high-quality results throughout the manufacturing process.
Domin had previously acquired a RenAM 500Q system in 2023. However, as production needs grew, the company required additional capacity to keep pace with market demand. The new RenAM 500Q Ultra, Renishaw’s highest productivity system, addresses this need, enabling Domin to scale up its output effectively.
“The installation of the RenAM 500Q Ultra marks another exciting milestone in Domin’s growth journey,” said Marcus Pont, Chief Executive and co-founder of Domin. “This state-of-the-art technology will further enhance our manufacturing capabilities, allowing us to deliver even greater value to our customers. Our continued partnership with Renishaw demonstrates our commitment to innovation and operational excellence.”
Domin’s hydraulic valves are designed for high-demand industries such as automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing. By utilizing metal AM, Domin can produce complex geometries with internal features unattainable through traditional manufacturing methods. This results in components with superior strength-to-weight ratios and reduced material waste.
Domin’s innovative approach, which combines AM with high-speed motor control, modern electronics, big data, and connected technology, is part of a broader mission to reduce the hydraulics industry’s carbon footprint by one gigatonne of CO2e by 2030. The enhanced production capacity provided by the RenAM 500Q Ultra will help Domin maintain swift production turnaround times and consistently deliver high-quality products to its expanding customer base.
“We’re very pleased to have installed the RenAM 500Q Ultra system to enable Domin to supercharge their production,” said Josh Whitmore, senior technical sales engineer at Renishaw. “This collaboration is a testament to the strength of the UK’s manufacturing ecosystem and reflects our commitment to supporting domestic producers with world-class technology.”
