ABB Enhances Motor Efficiency with New SP4 Cast-Iron Model

by Anna

ABB (Cary, NC) is advancing motor efficiency with its latest addition to the Baldor-Reliance SP4 motor line, boosting performance by up to 20%. The new cast-iron, totally enclosed fan-cooled (TEFC) severe-duty motor represents the second phase of ABB’s SP4 technology rollout, offering enhanced capabilities for hazardous environments.

This model is engineered to meet rigorous safety standards, with certifications for Division 2 and Class I Groups A, B, C, D, as well as Class II Groups F and G. These certifications ensure its suitability for areas with explosive gases and combustible dust. Additionally, the motor’s IP55 rating guarantees protection against dust and water spray, making it a robust choice for harsh and dirty conditions.

ABB’s SP4 line builds upon the reliability of its AC induction motors, offering a range of durable options designed for severe-duty applications. The new cast-iron motors extend the power range to 25 to 300 horsepower, complementing the previously introduced rolled steel models, which are available in ¼ to 20 horsepower. These motors are versatile and compatible with a variety of industrial applications, including pumps, fans, compressors, and conveyors.
