UK Manufacturing Sector Hosts Open House Day to Showcase Career Opportunities

On September 26, hundreds of British manufacturing companies are opening their doors to local communities for a UK-wide Open House event, highlighting the lucrative career paths available within this dynamic sector.

Companies across the country are participating in the initiative, which aims to showcase the diverse opportunities in manufacturing, spanning areas such as engineering, food and drink, and aerospace. The Make UK events map provides a comprehensive overview of the celebrations, featuring hands-on activities like building a model airplane, designing circuit boards, engaging in 3D printing, virtual welding, and observing the initial production stages of lifeboats made from composite materials.

Students are particularly encouraged to participate, with many given the chance to engage with apprentices about their experiences and to interact with marketing, planning, design, and research teams dedicated to innovating for the future. In West Yorkshire, approximately 1,000 local school and college students are expected to attend a showcase by West Yorkshire Manufacturing Services, where they can explore the region’s leading manufacturers and consider careers in this well-paying field.

Among the notable participants is Lush, the popular cosmetics retailer, which is hosting an open day for local schools and the community. Visitors to Lush’s headquarters will have the opportunity to create their own bath bombs and learn about the company’s Green Hub, a pioneering initiative focused on the circular economy.

Additionally, the event will allow guests to tour the RNLI’s all-weather Lifeboat Centre, where cutting-edge jet propulsion Shannon lifeboats are designed and built before being launched into Poole Harbour for rigorous sea trials.

Stephen Phipson, CEO of Make UK, expressed his enthusiasm for National Manufacturing Day, stating, “This day is my favorite as the manufacturing sector unites to celebrate the incredible products that Britain designs and produces.
