EDP, a global leader in renewable energy, is set to install photovoltaic panels and donate power generators to select units of Poland’s State Fire Service in areas hit hardest by recent floods. The initiative aims to bolster energy independence and ensure more efficient emergency response by the fire brigades, particularly in the event of power outages.
The project will see at least five fire stations equipped with solar installations and power generators. These systems are expected to be operational by early 2025. The solar panels will reduce energy costs and increase the use of renewable energy for the fire brigades, while the generators will provide backup power in case of grid failures, enhancing their ability to respond effectively during emergencies.
“With climate change causing more frequent environmental disasters, it’s crucial to support those on the front lines,” said Ireneusz Kulka, Country Manager of EDP Energia Polska. “Firefighters in Poland have shown extraordinary courage in the wake of the recent floods, and we want to equip them with the tools necessary for even greater effectiveness in the future.”
The locations for the installations will be determined in collaboration with Regional Chiefs of the State Fire Service to ensure they are placed where they are most needed.
EDP, which has been operating in Poland since 2007, has invested over 7 billion zlotys in the country and has a strong history of community support. The company has partnered with 22 municipalities to implement educational and recreational programs that promote the benefits of renewable energy, further underlining its commitment to sustainability and local communities.
