by Anna

Siemens Mobility has inaugurated its new Train Manufacturing Facility in Goole, United Kingdom, following an investment of up to €230 million. Situated on a sprawling 67-acre site—equivalent to 35 football pitches—this facility is a central component of Siemens’ ambitious Goole Rail Village project.

The factory will play a crucial role in assembling the London Underground’s new Piccadilly line trains, which are scheduled to enter passenger service in 2025. This initiative aims to support Transport for London (TfL) in enhancing rail travel across the capital.

In conjunction with the facility’s opening, Siemens Mobility also announced a further investment of up to €50 million in a new state-of-the-art Bogie Assembly and Service Center in Goole. This center will expand the company’s existing capabilities to overhaul bogies from UK trains, including the maintenance of its fleet of 3,224 vehicles (572 trains). Notably, this new center will feature production lines for assembling bogies for new trains, marking a first for Siemens in the UK.

This momentous occasion builds upon our significant investments in a modern signalling manufacturing facility in Chippenham, reinforcing our long-term commitment to the advancement of the UK’s rail industry.”

The Goole Train Manufacturing Facility, equipped with cutting-edge technology and a highly skilled workforce, is poised to become a cornerstone of both the British and global rail industry. It will enhance the UK’s rail manufacturing capabilities and contribute significantly to the sector’s future growth.

The Goole Rail Village will encompass the Train Manufacturing Facility, which assembles and commissions trains; the Components Facility, responsible for maintaining gearboxes, traction motors, and other essential parts for train and tram fleets; the Logistics Center for warehousing; and the Rail Accelerator and Innovation Solutions hub for Enterprise (RaisE) business center. The addition of the Bogie Assembly and Service Center will further strengthen the overall capabilities of this innovative rail complex.
