Bosch has been advancing its EDSP marine drive platform, which facilitates the electrification of boat drives. Alongside the SMG 230, Bosch offers two smaller electric motors: the SMG 180 with a 90 kW output and the SMG 220 with a 140 kW output. Both models are suitable not only for marine applications but also for off-highway vehicles.

One notable collaboration involves the Swedish electric boat manufacturer X Shore, which is currently utilizing Bosch’s electric boat motors. Together, they are working on enhancing the electric drive systems for their boats, demonstrating Bosch’s commitment to supporting the marine industry in transitioning to electric propulsion.

The introduction of the SMG 230 electric motor marks a significant step forward in the electrification of marine vessels. With its high efficiency, power density, and versatility, Bosch is positioning itself as a key player in the growing market for electric marine propulsion systems. As the industry shifts toward more sustainable solutions, innovations like the SMG 230 will likely play a crucial role in the future of boating.
