Mahindra & Mahindra’s upcoming born-electric SUVs were showcased in their concept avatars in August 2023. The range includes the XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, BE.07, and BE.09, based on the INGLO skateboard platform. The production-ready Mahindra XUV.e8 (electric XUV700) and BE.05 SUVs will be among the first to hit the road, while the Mahindra XUV.e9 is being tested extensively. We have seen test mules of all these upcoming Mahindra electric SUVs multiple times, revealing their design and interior details.
The upcoming Mahindra XUV.e9, which is slated to launch in April 2025, will target executives seeking a spacious and comfortable cabin combined with the practicality of an SUV. Official specifications of the EV are yet to be revealed. However, the XUV.e9 will share its battery pack and electric motor with the XUV.e8, which is due for December 2024. The higher trim might feature an 80kWh battery pack and dual electric motors. The power and range figures are expected to be around 203bhp – 350bhp and 435km–450km (WLTP cycle), respectively. Reports suggest that the XUV.e9 could be offered only with an RWD (rear-wheel drive) system.
Previous spy images confirmed that the XUV.e9 will have three joined 12.3-inch displays, along with a conventional shift lever on the center console and a two-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel. In terms of features, the upcoming Mahindra born-electric SUVs are claimed to be packed with Level 2 ADAS tech, vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, a HUD with augmented navigation, and more. Additionally, these SUVs will come with an EV-specific connected car package and sound system designed and developed by AR Rahman.
The production-ready Mahindra XUV.e9 will stay true to its concept, similar to Mahindra’s other born-electric SUVs. It will feature a closed-off front grille with a full-width LED light bar, vertically positioned split headlamps, new alloy wheels, a rear bumper with integrated registration plate, connected LED taillamps, and a tailgate with Mahindra’s emblem.
