1967 Plymouth GTX Electromod Leads Mopar’s 2024 SEMA Concepts

by Anna

As the annual SEMA show approaches, Mopar has unveiled several exciting concepts, including a standout 1967 Plymouth GTX “Electromod.” This classic muscle car has been retrofitted with an electric crate motor, showcasing Mopar’s innovative approach to EV conversions.

The GTX is accompanied by two modified Ram trucks: the high-performance RHO off-roader and the heavy-duty Power Wagon. The Electromod offers a glimpse into a potential EV conversion kit, blending classic design with modern technology. At first glance, the muscle car appears traditional, but a look under its custom carbon-fiber hood reveals Mopar’s e-Crate propulsion system. This electric motor produces 335 horsepower and is mounted to the GTX’s frame with custom brackets. It drives the rear axle through a 3:1 reducer gear and is powered by four battery packs—one located between the grille and the motor and three in the trunk. This configuration is expected to deliver around 250 miles of range. In a nostalgic touch, the charging port is cleverly hidden behind the flip-top fuel cap.

To enhance its visual appeal, Mopar painted the GTX in Frostbite Blue and fitted it with bronze 18-inch wheels. The car has a lowered ride height, widened rear wheel arches, and trimmed bumpers that match the body color. Carbon-fiber front and rear spoilers add a modern flair, complemented by satin black stripes on the hood.

Inside, the Electromod retains much of the original GTX design while incorporating modern updates. It features new gauges, including a 160-mph speedometer, housed in a custom bezel and viewed through a leather-wrapped, flat-bottomed steering wheel. The interior is upholstered in blue leather with bronze and orange stitching, and the low-back seats are sourced from a Jeep Wrangler. Additional elements include a cupholder from a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a rotary shifter from a Dodge Durango.

In a significant industry shift, the 702-hp Ram 1500 TRX has been discontinued, along with other half-ton Ram trucks equipped with V-8 engines. In its place, Mopar introduces the 540-hp RHO, which features a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine instead of the supercharged 6.2-liter V-8. For SEMA, the RHO has been adorned with eye-catching body graphics, showcasing blue decals on the rear cab and bedsides, along with accents on the hood and tailgate.

The RHO is finished in satin Diamond Black metallic paint and is equipped with rugged 37-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, with a spare mounted in the bed. Additional features include a sport bar with LED lights, stamped side steps, and a textured spray-in bedliner. Inside, the black interior boasts custom nappa leather seats, highlighted with Mopar Blue bolsters, enhancing the truck’s overall appeal.
