Volvo Trucks North America Expands Electric Truck Deployment

by Anna

Volvo Trucks North America has announced the deployment of over 570 Class 8 battery-electric trucks since commercial orders began in December 2020. These trucks have collectively logged more than 8.5 million miles with over 70 customers. To support its clients, Volvo has established a network of certified electric vehicle (EV) dealerships throughout North America. Globally, the company operates more than 4,300 electric trucks across 48 countries.

The North American division is focused on creating a comprehensive electromobility ecosystem, featuring 64 dealer locations in 28 U.S. states and four Canadian provinces. Recently, O’Connor Motor Company became the first certified EV dealer in Maine.

Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America, emphasized the importance of a supportive ecosystem for battery-electric vehicles. “We recognized early on that the transition to battery-electric vehicles required more than just the trucks themselves; it had to be a total ecosystem of support for this groundbreaking technology,” he stated. He added that Volvo was the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to establish a Certified EV Dealer network.

Several dealership groups, such as TEC Equipment and Bruckner’s Truck & Equipment, have successfully completed the certification process at multiple locations. Volvo Trucks aims to create a coast-to-coast dealer support network, with 34 additional locations currently undergoing certification.

In addition to the dealership network, Volvo has developed digital tools to assist with route planning and total cost of ownership analysis. The company is also forming strategic partnerships to enhance charging infrastructure.

Earlier this year, Volvo Trucks and Volvo Financial Solutions launched the Volvo on Demand program, allowing fleets to use a Volvo VNR Electric truck for as little as 12 months. This initiative enables fleets to experience the trucks before committing to a purchase or long-term lease.

Volvo Financial Solutions has also introduced new financing options that cover the installation of charging infrastructure, allowing customers to combine service and maintenance plans into single monthly payments.
