Mazda has officially launched its new electric vehicle, the EZ-6, in China. Developed through the Changan Mazda joint venture, the model starts at approximately $19,600 in the local market. The company is also exploring options to expand sales to other regions, including Europe.
The EZ-6 is available in two main versions: an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and a fully electric model.
The EREV version offers two battery options: an 18.9 kWh or a 28.4 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, paired with a 1.5-liter engine that solely charges the batteries. Depending on the battery size, this version provides an electric-only range of 130 to 200 kilometers, based on China’s CLTC standard. The EREV’s electric motor delivers 215 horsepower and drives the rear wheels.
For customers interested in the all-electric variant, there are two battery options available: 56.1 kWh and 68.8 kWh. This version features a more powerful motor, generating 255 horsepower and 318 Nm of torque. It also powers the rear wheels and offers an estimated range of up to 600 kilometers.
Pricing for the EREV models ranges from $19,600 to $23,800, while the fully electric versions are priced between $22,400 and $25,200. With a 114-inch wheelbase and a length of 194 inches, the EZ-6 is comparable in size to the Hyundai Ioniq 6.
Mazda’s experience with the EZ-6 in China will be instrumental in shaping its future electric vehicle plans, particularly as it considers expansion into Europe and North America. The performance and customer reception of the EZ-6 will significantly influence Mazda’s global EV strategy.
