Hyliion Demonstrates KARNO Generator’s Advanced Multi-Fuel Capabilities

by Anna

The demonstration showcased the KARNO generator’s advanced multi-fuel capabilities operate to uninterrupted while switching from natural gas to nitrogen-rich syngas, and subsequently to blends of natural gas and hydrogen, even up to a majority hydrogen composition. This seamless adaptability was achieved without recalibration or shutdown, thanks to its robust engineering and advanced control system designed for real-world fuel variability. The generator supports over 20 fuel types, including natural gas, hydrogen, propane, diesel, ammonia, and methane. This versatility allows customers to future-proof their energy needs by incorporating both conventional and alternative fuels as they become more available. Moreover, when operated with certain fuels, the KARNO generator achieves zero carbon emissions and extremely low levels of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO), providing an eco-friendly alternative to traditional power sources.

“This adaptability allows our customers to leverage the generator’s ability to handle impure or variable fuels, making it perfect for industries such as oil and gas, waste gas recovery, and other environments where fuel composition is inconsistent,” stated Thomas Healy, Founder and CEO of Hyliion. “I’m proud of our team’s progress on this technology and excited about its potential impact on sustainable power solutions.”
