Six individuals, including four children and two adults, were hospitalized Wednesday morning after being exposed to carbon monoxide at a home in Campo, according to Cal Fire San Diego.
Cal Fire spokesperson Mike Cornette confirmed to ABC 10News that emergency responders were dispatched to the 1700 block of N Campo Truck Trail at 11:10 a.m. Upon arrival, fire crews found the group of six, who had been using a generator for power. The generator was placed too close to the residence, which led to the carbon monoxide buildup and subsequent poisoning.
The victims were transported to Sharp Grossmont Hospital for treatment. As of late afternoon, no updates on their condition were provided to ABC 10News.
The incident took place on the Campo Reservation, a community that had been affected by San Diego Gas & Electric’s recent public safety power shutoff. This shutoff was implemented due to heightened fire risks in the area. According to SDG&E, power has since been partially restored to the reservation.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
