A fire has extensively damaged the generator house at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) on Oshodi Road, Lagos. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident, which occurred late Wednesday night.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, stated that the agency received a distress call around 10:20 p.m. on Thursday. In response, LASEMA deployed a team from its Cappa Base in Oshodi, arriving at the scene just two minutes later.
Upon arrival, it was determined that the fire had engulfed the generator house. Preliminary investigations suggest that the blaze was caused by overheating of a generator that was in operation at the time.
Oke-Osanyintolu reported that approximately 80 percent of the generator house was destroyed by the fire. However, he confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported. The fire was quickly contained, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings within the facility.
“The fire has been successfully extinguished, and damping down operations have been completed,” Oke-Osanyintolu added.
