TMC Compressors has been awarded a contract by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group to supply its Smart Air compressors for six new dual-fuel methanol container ships being built for Maersk.
The agreement will see TMC provide a comprehensive marine compressed air system for the ships, featuring its energy-efficient Smart Air compressors, which the company claims offer up to 40% energy savings compared to traditional compressors. The system will include both control and service air compressors designed for optimal performance.
Smart Air compressors utilize frequency-controlled technology, allowing for precise adjustment of compressor speed. This system automatically adjusts the speed of the electric motor to match the required air volume, ensuring the compressed air consumption is met efficiently. By reducing air consumption, the compressor operates at lower speeds, which in turn reduces overall power consumption, making the system highly energy-efficient.
The six vessels, each with a capacity of 9,000 TEU, are expected to be delivered by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in 2026 and 2027.
TMC Compressors, headquartered in Oslo, specializes in providing marine compressed air systems exclusively for the marine and offshore industries.
