The Hiden pQA portable gas analyser is a versatile tool designed for a wide range of environmental and field applications. As a compact mass spectrometer, the system offers flexibility with interchangeable sampling inlets, catering to various analysis needs, including the detection of dissolved species in groundwater, fermentation cultures, soil samples, and other liquid samples.
Ideal for gas analysis in small sample volumes, the pQA system is particularly useful in environmental studies where detecting low concentrations is essential. It features a mass range of up to 200 amu, with detection levels reaching sub-ppb, and an optional extended mass range up to 300 amu for more demanding applications.
The analyser is housed in a durable Pelican® case, making it well-suited for fieldwork. It can be powered in multiple ways, including through a 12V supply (ideal for field use), battery or solar power, or a 220V supply for laboratory settings.
A variety of sampling inlets are available for different environmental studies. These include the direct membrane inlet probe, designed for immersion or insertion into liquid or sludge samples; a recirculating probe, which allows for continuous flow analysis, such as for sea or estuary water; and a flow-through probe, particularly suitable for low-flow studies, such as denitrification research.

- A quadrupole mass spectrometer with a 200 amu mass range (optional extension to 300 amu).
- A mass spectrometer analyser manifold with a UHV pump set.
- A manually valved dissolved species probe with a silicone rubber membrane.
- An ion gauge and safety interlocks to protect the system from overpressure situations.
- A fast-acting shut-off valve linked to the UHV pressure gauge, ensuring protection in case of membrane failure.
Designed for robust field use, the pQA system weighs less than 40 kg and is compact enough to be transported easily in its rugged Pelican case. It is compatible with both field and laboratory power sources, offering maximum flexibility for a variety of environmental research applications.
