AFC Energy Unveils Upgraded H-Power S+ 200kW Hydrogen Generator

by Anna

AFC Energy has launched its second-generation H-Power S+ 200kW generator, a significant leap forward in hydrogen power technology for construction and off-grid power applications. The new model builds upon the achievements of its first-generation prototype, developed in collaboration with ABB, and offers substantial improvements in size, weight, and cost-efficiency.

The H-Power S+ 200kW is now 34% smaller, 28% lighter, and 65% more affordable than its predecessor, enhancing its accessibility and ease of deployment across various industries. These upgrades align with AFC Energy’s strategy to reduce barriers to hydrogen adoption as the market for clean energy solutions continues to expand.

This innovation is backed by the Red Diesel Replacement Grant (RDR), ensuring the unit’s readiness for immediate field deployment. The generator’s first installation will take place at a Brett Aggregates site, where it will support facility operations, demonstrating its capabilities in a practical, real-world setting.

The launch is also part of the broader RDR programme, administered by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. With up to £40 million in matched funding from the £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP), the programme aims to accelerate the commercialization of clean energy technologies in sectors like construction, mining, and quarrying, playing a crucial role in the UK’s net-zero goals for the 2020s and 2030s.
