dlr Architects has been awarded the Best Energy Smart Initiative at the All-Ireland Community and Council Awards for their successful implementation of a hybrid power system at the St. Laurence’s Apartments and Library Construction site in Stillorgan.
In collaboration with Clancy Construction and JTM Energy, the innovative project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by around 70% over the lifespan of the construction. The hybrid power system replaces three traditional generators with a single generator and a high-capacity storage battery, ensuring efficient and responsible energy use while minimizing fossil fuel consumption and environmental impact.
Councillor Jim O’Leary, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, expressed pride in receiving the award, emphasizing the commitment to sustainable energy practices and innovative solutions that benefit both communities and the environment.
Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, highlighted the significance of the hybrid system in setting a precedent for sustainable practices in the construction industry. He noted that the initiative would encourage other projects to adopt eco-friendly solutions, reducing reliance on fossil fuel-powered generators, lowering emissions, and improving air quality and noise levels around construction sites.
