ENGIE Brasil Energia, a leading player in renewable energy, has finalized an agreement to acquire two hydropower plants. The acquisition includes the Santo Antônio do Jari plant, located in the Amapá and Pará states, and the Cachoeira Caldeirão plant, based in Amapá. Together, these plants will contribute an additional 612 MW of installed capacity to ENGIE’s generation portfolio.
The deal is valued at approximately R$2.9 billion, which includes R$2.3 billion in equity value and R$671,000 in net debt. The plants are fully contracted under the regulated market, ensuring stable, long-term revenue streams.
Eduardo Sattamini, CEO of ENGIE Brasil Energia, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable growth. He stated, “This acquisition aligns with our strategy to strengthen our presence in the electricity sector, increase the proportion of hydropower in our generation mix, and extend the duration of our contracted capacity in the regulated market.”
Once integrated, these plants will become part of ENGIE’s 11.3 GW generation portfolio, which includes 115 plants. Of these, 11 are hydroelectric, while the remaining 104 are powered by renewable sources such as biomass, wind, solar, and solar heat pump systems.
Eduardo Takamori, the company’s Chief Financial and Investor Relations Officer, added that the acquisition would create long-term value for shareholders. He highlighted that the purchase of already operational assets would provide consistent revenue, while ENGIE’s expertise in hydropower plant operations ensures an optimal balance between risk and return.
