Conflux Teams Up with AMSL Aero for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cooling in Vertiia VTOL

by Anna

Conflux Technology, a leader in additive-manufactured heat exchangers, is developing hydrogen fuel cell cooling systems for AMSL Aero’s Vertiia VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) aircraft. AMSL Aero, an Australian manufacturer, is designing the world’s most efficient long-range, zero-emissions electric aircraft.

In the initial phase, Conflux created three heat-exchanger concepts to minimize weight, manage heat loads, and reduce drag, allowing for flight distances of up to 1,000 km. The project has now moved into its second phase, focusing on the optimization of a full proof-of-concept assembly to test its performance within Vertiia’s hydrogen fuel cell powertrain.

The cooling solution is designed for the transient heat loads experienced during Vertiia’s vertical takeoff, landing, and hover operations. Additive manufacturing allows for lightweight, high-performance heat exchangers that fit the limited space available in hydrogen powertrains while minimizing drag.
