Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, known for its iconic Ginger Beer, has expanded its production capacity with a new master brewery and upgraded equipment. To ensure consistent product quality, the company installed a cooker and thermalizer from HRS Heat Exchangers.
Founded in 1968 in Queensland, Bundaberg Brewed Drinks has grown from a local supplier to a global brand. With increased demand, the company invested in a new greenfield project to accommodate future growth and partnered with M. E. Engineering to provide new production equipment.
The ginger beer brewing process involves several stages, including heating and cooling. Bundaberg selected HRS Heat Exchangers for efficient hot water, CIP solutions, and product heating and cooling. The new cooker and thermalizer are integral to the fermentation process, ensuring uniform temperature control.
The cooker, capable of processing 20.5 tons per hour, uses steam and heat recovery to achieve the required product temperature. The thermalizer, using MI and MR Series heat exchangers, efficiently raises and cools the product while recovering energy from the cooling phase.
Ella Taghavi, sales engineering manager at HRS, noted the importance of efficiency in the project: “Our corrugated tube design maximizes heat transfer while minimizing space.” After extensive collaboration, the systems were delivered in just 10 weeks and commissioned once the broader project was completed.
