Copeland Invests in BlueHeart Energy’s Thermo-Acoustic Heating Technology

by Anna

Copeland has made an investment in BlueHeart Energy, a Netherlands-based startup developing cutting-edge thermo-acoustic heating technology. The company’s novel approach utilizes sound waves in a closed circuit to generate both heat and cold. While thermo-acoustics is not a new concept, BlueHeart is pioneering its application in heat pumps for residential buildings.

Founded in Alkmaar in 2016 as a spin-off from TNO, a leading Dutch research organization and expert in thermo-acoustics, BlueHeart aims to revolutionize residential heating. The company’s thermo-acoustic technology is particularly promising for smaller homes due to its compact design and quiet operation.

The BlueHeart unit consists of a sealed tubular circuit filled with helium at 60 bar, capable of working with a wide range of heat sources. It operates effectively at temperatures from -20°C to +50°C, with sink temperatures ranging from 7°C to 80°C.

Ross B. Shuster, CEO of Copeland, emphasized that the technology complements Copeland’s existing scroll compressor portfolio. “This investment will help BlueHeart move their innovative technology toward commercial readiness, and it underscores Copeland’s commitment to supporting the global energy transition and providing efficient, sustainable heating solutions worldwide,” Shuster said.
