Trane® by Trane Technologies has unveiled two new air-cooled chiller models: the Magnetic Bearing Chiller and the Ascend™ Chiller, designed specifically for facility chilled water cooling applications.
The Magnetic Bearing Chiller offers exceptional cooling capacity, making it ideal for the increasing demands of data center thermal management. Meanwhile, the Ascend™ platform delivers even greater efficiency for operations in high ambient temperatures, a growing need as data centers handle more heat from modern GPUs and AI systems.
“Next-gen microprocessors are expected to significantly increase rack density, driving the need for higher capacity and more efficient air-cooled chillers,” said Steve Obstein, Vice President and General Manager, Data Centers & High-Tech at Trane Technologies. “By working closely with our customers, we’re able to redefine the standards of cooling efficiency, capacity, and environmental sustainability, helping data center operators stay ahead of evolving thermal management challenges.”
Maximizing Cooling Capacity with a Reduced Footprint
The Magnetic Bearing Chiller, based on Trane’s proven magnetic bearing compressor platform, offers up to 850 tons (3MW) of cooling capacity on a single unit frame. This innovation maximizes cooling capacity while reducing the overall footprint, often allowing for fewer units to be used on-site. This, in turn, lowers installation costs and reduces sound transmission, particularly in sound-sensitive areas.
Ascend Chiller for Higher Ambient Temperature Operations
The Ascend air-cooled chiller platform has been enhanced to address the challenges of greater heat density caused by modern technologies. With the ability to operate at ambient temperatures up to 145°F, the Ascend Chiller incorporates integrated indirect free cooling to reduce reliance on mechanical cooling, cutting energy consumption and operational costs while improving data center uptime.
Designed for Efficiency and Serviceability
Both chillers use refrigerants with lower global warming potential, helping reduce energy costs and carbon footprints. They come equipped with Trane’s Symbio® 800 unit controller and AdaptiView™ user interface, providing secure connectivity, flexibility, and ease of service. Trane also offers extensive support throughout the lifecycle of data centers with thousands of service experts across North America, along with Smart Service options for proactive monitoring and predictive maintenance.
