SEGULA Technologies has introduced REMORA Home, an innovative energy storage solution designed for homeowners with photovoltaic panels or domestic wind turbines. This cutting-edge technology allows users to store surplus energy for future use, providing them with greater energy independence and a reduced ecological footprint.
The REMORA Home system is built on a patented isothermal air compression and decompression process, setting it apart as a groundbreaking solution in the growing field of energy storage. By capturing excess energy generated by renewable sources like solar or wind power, REMORA Home ensures that homeowners can make the most of their energy production, even when conditions for renewable energy generation are less than ideal.
A Smart, Discreet Solution for the Connected Home
REMORA Home is designed to integrate seamlessly into any type of home. The system consists of two main components:
Reversible Compressor: This component connects to the home’s solar panels (or wind turbines) and converts surplus energy into compressed air. Comparable in size to a conventional water heater, it can be easily installed in a variety of locations such as a garage, cellar, or utility room.
Storage Cabinet: The second part of the system houses the compressed air cylinders, which are used to store the energy. The storage cabinet can be placed either indoors or outdoors, providing flexible installation options.
When energy production is insufficient—due to the absence of sun or wind, for example—the stored compressed air is released and converted back into electricity, ensuring continuous and reliable energy autonomy for the household.
To provide users with a convenient, user-friendly experience, REMORA Home is controlled via an intuitive mobile application. The app allows homeowners to monitor their energy consumption, track system performance, and receive personalized recommendations. It can also be connected to certain household appliances to optimize their energy usage.
A Robust and Low-Carbon Alternative
With an overall efficiency of 70% and a lifespan of at least 30 years, REMORA Home offers a long-lasting and sustainable energy storage solution. Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, this system generates no harmful emissions and is built using durable, recyclable materials like steel and aluminium.
David Guyomarc’h, REMORA Project Director and Head of R&D at SEGULA Technologies, emphasized the importance of renewable energy storage: “The storage of renewable energy, particularly in the home, is a major challenge for the future. With REMORA Home, we are offering individuals the opportunity to optimize their energy production, reduce dependence on fluctuating electricity prices, and actively contribute to the energy transition.” He added that this intelligent, sustainable solution meets the growing demand for energy autonomy and efficient management at the household level.
Testing and Future Developments
The development of REMORA Home has reached an exciting stage, with the test phases already underway. Since January 2024, the system has demonstrated strong performance in storing air at a scale suitable for home use. The next phase of laboratory testing in 2025 will focus on optimizing energy storage capabilities.
Looking ahead, SEGULA Technologies plans to conduct pilot deployments of REMORA Home in individual homes by late 2026. These pilot tests will provide valuable insights into the system’s long-term performance and user interaction, ensuring that all functionalities are fully validated before mass production begins. The official market release is expected in 2028.
Building on REMORA Offshore Technology
REMORA Home is an evolution of REMORA Offshore, an earlier version designed to store renewable energy beneath the sea. While REMORA Offshore focuses on large-scale energy storage, REMORA Home is specifically designed for private homeowners. Additionally, REMORA Stack, another offshoot of this technology, offers large-scale energy storage solutions for industrial sites.
SEGULA Technologies’ continued innovation in energy storage positions the company at the forefront of the transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions. With REMORA Home, the company is helping homeowners take control of their energy future while contributing to a cleaner planet.
