STMicroelectronics has teamed up with Segway to elevate the performance of its latest robotic lawnmowers by integrating precision positioning and extended satellite-signal coverage. This collaboration is aimed at improving the efficiency and safety of autonomous lawn care.

For robotic lawnmowers that operate without boundary wires, reliable satellite navigation is crucial. These devices must navigate autonomously in areas where tall buildings or trees can interfere with satellite signals. Continuous and accurate satellite signal coverage is especially vital when mowers are near stairs or steep slopes.

STMicroelectronics’ Teseo satellite navigation chips, known for their automotive-grade quality and reliability, provide the perfect solution. These chips offer decimeter-level location accuracy, ensuring the mower stays within its designated area at all times.

Segway’s new Navimow X3 robotic lawnmowers are equipped with ST’s Teseo V single-chip triple-band GNSS receivers. These receivers can track multiple satellite constellations simultaneously, significantly enhancing performance in challenging environments. The inclusion of real-time kinematic (RTK) technology further corrects satellite signal errors, ensuring stable operation even in complex layouts, such as properties with narrow passageways or multiple mowing zones. Segway reports a 20 to 30% improvement in satellite signal coverage in comparison to earlier models, thanks to ST’s technology.
