Hannover, September 19, 2023 – After a four-year hiatus, EMO Hannover, the world’s leading trade fair for production technology, officially opens its doors today. The event features 1,850 exhibitors from 42 countries who will showcase their latest machines, solutions, and services for industrial production.
Carl Martin Welcker, General Commissioner of EMO Hannover, highlighted the significance of the fair, stating that EMO serves as a vital platform for all aspects of manufacturing technology. It offers a glimpse of the latest machines, technical solutions, trends, and innovations, effectively covering the entire production technology value chain. Welcker described EMO Hannover as a “smart factory” and emphasized its role in addressing pressing issues of our time through technological advancements.
The fair focuses on three major themes: The Future of Business, The Future of Connectivity, and The Future of Sustainability in Production. These themes reflect the challenges faced by industrial production today, including efficiency enhancement, flexibility, quality improvement, automation, electromobility, energy efficiency, and the circular economy.
EMO Hannover encompasses a wide range of offerings, including production systems, tools, measuring equipment, software, and controls. The diversity of exhibits mirrors the current challenges and opportunities in industrial production.
The event also features a comprehensive supporting program with approximately 360 individual events. Highlights include a high-profile panel discussion on Sustainable Production Value Chain, exploring how the industry is preparing for the future. There are also sessions dedicated to New Digital Work, addressing the changing landscape of work in the future.
Innovation and collaboration with startups are increasingly important at EMO. Over 60 young companies will present their products in the Startup Area, providing opportunities for exhibitors and visitors to establish new connections. The EMO Startup Night facilitates networking with young companies.
Additionally, EMO promotes youth education and development in mechanical engineering. The Special Training stand of the Youth Education and Development Foundation for Mechanical Engineering showcases efforts to address the shortage of skilled workers and promote the attractiveness of metalworking professions to young people.
The global economic situation plays a crucial role in the success of EMO Hannover. Despite a current global demand slump, the machine tool industry anticipates healthy interest in its products in the medium and long term. Factors like automation, digitalization, electromobility, critical infrastructure development, and investment in renewable energies offer significant potential for manufacturing technology. Economic researchers forecast a 7% increase in the machine tool market for 2024.
The shift in the automotive industry towards electric drives presents opportunities for the machine tool industry. Sales of battery and fuel cell vehicles are expected to grow, creating demand for components like electric motors, power electronics, batteries, and fuel cells, which require manufacturing technology.
E-mobility is not only a promising avenue for growth but also contributes to environmental sustainability. Early adoption and the development of product portfolios in the electromobility sector are encouraged to capitalize on the emerging opportunities.
EMO Hannover 2023 is expected to host inspiring discussions with trade visitors from around the world over six exciting days.
