Avnet Embedded has introduced its latest offering, the MSC OSM-SF-IMX93 OSM computing modules, designed in compliance with the new OSM 1.1 standard (Size-S) “Small,” boasting compact dimensions of 30 x 30mm. These scalable standard modules are powered by i.MX 93 applications processors from NXP Semiconductors.
These MSC OSM-SF-IMX93 OSM modules come in pre-tinned LGA packages and can be soldered directly to PCBs, making them suitable for fully automated soldering, assembly, and testing processes. This approach reduces production steps and eliminates connector costs, resulting in significant cost savings compared to existing module form factors. These solder-on modules are specifically optimized for large-scale production.
The compact MSC OSM-SF-IMX93 module family is primarily designed for industrial low-power applications that prioritize cost-effectiveness and compact dimensions. Typical applications include optimized IoT systems like small gateways, industrial control systems, and home automation solutions. These OSM boards are exceptionally rugged, resistant to shock and vibration, and operate within an extended temperature range from -40 to +85°C.
Tim Jensen, Director of Product Innovation at Avnet Embedded, highlighted the advantages of these compact and scalable OSM embedded computing modules, stating that they are optimized for large-scale production and open the door to numerous innovative application fields.
Avnet Embedded develops all its embedded modules in-house within its design centers, and these products are manufactured in high-volume, highly automated production facilities in Germany. Avnet Embedded’s first OSM products, the MSC OSM-MF-IMX8MINI and MSC OSM-MF-IMX8NANO, are based on NXP Semiconductors’ i.MX 8M Mini and i.MX 8M Nano SOCs featuring Arm Cortex-A53 processors.
Technical Specifications:
The MSC OSM-SF-IMX93 OSM module family from Avnet Embedded is highly scalable and features i.MX 93 applications processors from NXP Semiconductors. These processors incorporate single or dual Arm Cortex-A55 cores, delivering performance and energy efficiency for Linux-based edge applications. The Arm Ethos-U65 microNPU facilitates the development of cost-effective and energy-efficient machine learning (ML) applications. The i.MX 93 processors provide advanced security with an integrated EdgeLock secure enclave and an efficient 2D graphics processing unit (GPU).
These modules offer fast and low-power LPDDR4 memory technology with inline ECC support, coupled with up to 256GB eMMC Flash memory. Various interfaces cater to embedded applications, including Dual Gigabit Ethernet (RGMII), USB 2.0, 2x CAN-FD, MIPI-DSI, and MIPI CSI-2 (2-lane) for camera connections. Typical power consumption ranges from 2 to 4W.
For evaluation and design integration of the MSC OSM-SF-IMX93 modules, Avnet Embedded provides a development platform, starter kit, and comprehensive design services. Additionally, a Yocto-based Linux Board Support Package is available, with Android support available upon request.
