Ceratizit, a leading provider of cutting tools, recently hosted West Pharmaceutical Services at its Technical Centre for a comprehensive technical training day. The initiative allows customers to receive in-depth cutting tool training and leverage the company’s technical expertise.
As valued customers of Ceratizit for several years, West Pharmaceutical Services was invited to the training day by Iain Tattersall, technical sales engineer for Ceratizit UK & Ireland Ltd., who regularly provides technical and tooling support to the company. The training day aimed not only to appreciate their long-standing partnership but also to update them on Ceratizit’s latest innovations, tooling advancements, and showcase the latest machine techniques and metal cutting skills.
Ceratizit conducts these training days on a weekly basis, addressing the knowledge gap in the engineering industry. By passing on years of industry experience and technical skills, these training sessions aim to ensure that valuable knowledge is not lost and can be utilized by younger generations.
The training day commenced with theoretical training covering materials, tools, sustainability, speeds, feeds, and cutting data. Shaun Thornton, technical manager for Ceratizit UK & Ireland Ltd., led the theoretical training, providing customers with essential background knowledge to maximize machine performance and profitability.
The practical learning session in the afternoon included an interactive cutting tool demonstration on the MAZAK Integrex I-250H. Customers were encouraged to input cutting data, allowing them to witness firsthand how each operation ran and determine the best cutting data for specific machine conditions.
The training continued with interactive demonstrations on XYZ machines, where customers worked out cutting data before running specified programs. The XYZ UMC 5X demonstration showcased Ceratizit’s latest cutting tool technology, KOMflex, and ToolScope. ToolScope is a process monitoring control system that optimizes tool wear, prevents tool breakages, and monitors spindle torque. KOMflex is an actuated closed-loop boring and probing system that streamlines machining processes.
After the demonstrations, customers received fully documented training booklets containing information on tooling, machine demonstrations, and cutting data used throughout the day. Following the training day, Ceratizit engineers continued to support West Pharmaceutical Services, implementing changes to tooling and cutting data that positively impacted productivity, cycle times, and tool life.
This ongoing collaboration highlights the commitment of Ceratizit to enhance customer expertise, provide technical support, and share innovative machining techniques, ensuring customers get the most out of Ceratizit tooling.
